Indication

To stimulate the appetite, for stomach and intestinal complaints such as bloating and flatulence.

Use

Angelica tea is particularly suitable for internal use. To make it, pour 250 ml of cold water over two heaped teaspoons of angelica. Then bring the mixture to the boil and let it steep for about two minutes. After straining, it is recommended to drink about two to three cups a day, sipped lukewarm.
Angelica root can be taken not only as a tea, but also as a tincture or in the form of an herbal elixir.

History

Angelica is an aromatic, sweet-tasting medicinal plant which, according to legend, was sent to earth by an angel in times of great need, where it was used by a pious man against the plague. Angelica owes its popular name to this legend: Angelica.

In fact, the medicinal plant, which grows up to two metres high and originates from the north, was brought to Central Europe by the Vikings as a trade item in the 10th century: from then on, angelica quickly found its way into monastery gardens and Paracelsus also used angelica as a panacea in his time.

Note: There is an increased risk of confusion between the angelica and the very poisonous water hemlock. We therefore recommend that you do not collect the plant yourself, but instead buy it in a specialist shop or in an appropriate online shop.

Medicinal properties

The ingredients of angelica root already begin to act in the mouth: Saliva production is increased, the stomach releases more digestive juices and the gall bladder releases bile. This promotes digestion and also stimulates our appetite.
In addition to the properties just mentioned, angelica root has other medicinal properties. Angelica root also has an antiseptic effect and helps with flatulence, colds and states of exhaustion. Due to the furanocoumarins it contains, the medicinal plant also has an antispasmodic effect. 

Important: The furanocoumarins contained in the plant have a photosensitising effect and increase sensitivity to sunlight. This can cause inflammation of the skin and eczema in sensitive people, so you should be particularly careful when using angelica externally.
