Alleviate discomfort with herbal compresses

Wraps, compresses and poultices are among the well-known household remedies for treating simple illnesses. They alleviate complaints in a gentle and natural way and support the self-healing powers - of children as well as adults.

How do herbal poultices work?

Especially for stomach aches, sore throats, colds and minor injuries, compresses can work wonders. The reason for the soothing effect of compresses is usually warmth and the ingredients used in the compress, such as essential oils and herbs.

Because the poultice lasts for a long time, it is a very intensive treatment option that is especially well received by children.

Application

The application of wraps, compresses and poultices is very simple. Traditionally, a poultice only needs three layers:

- An inner cloth, which is used as a direct overlay on the skin.
Cotton, linen, kitchen crepe or nappy fleece are suitable for this.

- Another cloth as an intermediate layer. Cotton or linen cloths (e.g. a tea towel), gauze or cloth handkerchiefs and terry towels are suitable here.

- Wool is particularly suitable as an outer layer to fix and keep warm, as it can store heat very well. But flannel and terry towels, gauze bandages or scarves can also be wrapped around the two inner layers to secure them.

When everything is ready for the different layers, it depends on the specific application.

Herbal compresses for abdominal pain, bloating and colic

For example, a herbal poultice made of fennel seeds and chamomile can be used for stomach aches, bloating or colic. Here, 2 tablespoons of fennel seeds and 2 tablespoons of chamomile flowers are crushed in a mortar and then boiled with 300 ml of water to make a tea. After infusion for about 10 minutes, the strained tea is poured over the inner cloth, which is then placed on the stomach. The warmth of the poultice, in combination with fennel and chamomile, makes it a real "belly soother" that can be left on the belly for as long as it is felt to be pleasant.

Buying herbal poultices and compresses

Sometimes it just has to go a little faster. When the little one is struggling with chest or tummy pains at home, you often don't have the time or peace and quiet for a homemade poultice. For this purpose, you will find high-quality herbal compresses and overlays for the most common applications in our range.

As a rule, these are wax oil wraps for single use. In addition to beeswax, the focus here is on the respective essential oils, which are largely responsible for the effect of the compresses.
