The term natural cosmetics is generally understood to mean cosmetics that are made from natural raw materials. Unlike conventional cosmetics, natural cosmetic products do not contain harmful ingredients such as silicones, parabens, synthetic fragrances, paraffins and other petroleum products. The conventional industry uses, among other things, hormonally active substances that are associated with all kinds of side effects and even diseases. The ingredients of natural cosmetics, on the other hand, are mainly of plant, but also mineral or animal origin. For this reason, natural cosmetics are much gentler and friendlier to our skin than conventional cosmetics.

Since the term "natural cosmetics" is not clearly defined or regulated by law, each manufacturer can define its very own guidelines for natural cosmetics. A distinction is made primarily between "near-natural cosmetics" and "genuine natural cosmetics". Near-natural cosmetics are largely produced conventionally and contain very few or only isolated ingredients that are of natural origin. Genuine natural cosmetics, on the other hand, contain only natural substances, with a few exceptions.
