Caraway is a biennial herbaceous plant from the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). In the first year, the plant forms a rosette of pinnately toothed leaves, while in the second year it develops a 30 to 60 cm high, branched stem. The plant bears white to pink flowers, which are arranged in umbels. The fruits, also known as caraway seeds, are brown to grey, elongated and finely grooved, and are used as a spice in the kitchen. Caraway prefers to grow in dry, calcareous soils and is native to Europe and Asia.
Indication
Weak digestion, flatulence, mild stomach and intestinal cramps, colic, slightly antimicrobial
Application
Can be used as a spice and tea. Pour 250 boiling water over 1 tsp and leave to infuse covered for 20 minutes. Up to three cups a day, preferably after the three main meals.
