In antiquity, the violet was even considered a sacred flower and was dedicated to the god Pan. Violet wreaths were also worn on the head in honour of Saturn. Other violet species such as the pansy (Viola tricolor) have also been used in folk medicine for centuries, albeit with different applications.Occurrence: Of the 500 known species of violets, most thrive in the temperate zones of the earth. In hotter regions, however, they are more likely to be found in the mountains.
