Pour 1/4 l cold water over 2 heaped teaspoons of bedstraw and heat to boiling. Boil the mixture for 2 minutes, let it cool down and then strain it. 2-3 cups of this tea can be drunk per day. Description of medicinal herbs
Ragwort belongs to the genus of the red herbs and is rather delicate and inconspicuous, which makes it one of the more inconspicuous herbs. True bedstraw (Galium verum) is yellow-flowered and not quite as common as the white-flowered meadow bedstraw. The true bedstraw is mainly found in meadows and moorland meadows as well as along the edges of bushes and paths. The golden-yellow petals, which are arranged in panicles and smell faintly of honey, make the true bedstraw very easy to recognise.
The edible parts of the plant include the flowers, the needle-shaped leaves, the stems and the seeds. Its mild flavour makes it particularly suitable as a salad base. It can also be added to soups and vegetable dishes and cooked like spinach.
What are the healing properties of real bedstraw and how can it be used?
But real bedstraw is not only used in the kitchen. In folk medicine, too, the true bedstraw is said to have positive properties. Among other things, it has a calming, haemostatic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and nervine effect. The reason for the positive properties are the ingredients, which include essential oils, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, glycosides and silicic acid.
The ingredients as well as the properties ensure that the true bedstraw is used above all for diarrhoea, eczema, ulcers, skin inflammations as well as skin problems and also for high cholesterol levels.
A tea made from bedstraw is the most suitable form of administration. It has a mood-lifting and calming effect and is therefore mainly drunk to strengthen the nerves and for depressive moods. In addition, bedstraw tea has a diuretic effect, so it can also be drunk for kidney problems. Simply pour 250 millilitres of cold water over two heaped teaspoons of bedstraw and slowly bring the mixture to the boil. Let the mixture boil for two minutes before letting it cool and straining it. You can drink 2-3 cups of the bedstraw tea daily.
With our dried bedstraw from controlled organic cultivation, you can also easily make a tincture to strengthen the immune system. To do this, take a screw-top jar and fill it with bedstraw. Then fill the jar with 60 percent alcohol and place the jar in a sunny place for the next six weeks. Shake the mixture occasionally. Then strain the tincture and transfer it to a dark dropper bottle.
