Whether at the beginning of a new year, during the fasting period or according to personal needs: detoxification and detoxification cures (often referred to as detox) are traditional and, above all, tried and tested applications to help the body rid itself of “old burdens”. In principle, every body can do this itself, but our modern lifestyle and the multitude of environmental toxins can lead to these functions being restricted. Whether it’s to compensate for the festive treats or simply to promote your own health, in this blog article we want to show you how you can detox naturally.
Alarm signal fatigue
We often notice this through symptoms such as tiredness, listlessness or lack of energy, but also through general itching, susceptibility to infections or obesity. Here we can support the body both as a preventative measure and in specific cases.
If the body’s detoxification or excretory functions are overloaded, waste products are stored in the body’s own deposits, e.g. in the connective tissue. On the one hand, this can lead to obesity. On the other hand, significantly more micro-nutrients (e.g. vitamins, minerals, trace elements) are usually consumed and required in this context than would otherwise be the case. This can result in various deficiency symptoms and complaints that are often not recognised in context.
At the same time, the lack of micro-nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and trace elements, as well as the lack of good, clean drinking water, can restrict the body’s excretory functions. In this respect, the first steps of prevention, but also of active purification and detoxification as a cure, should be taken here:
- Drink at least 2 litres of good water a day; up to 4 litres for active detoxification cures, preferably warm (e.g. boiled or as light ginger water* or our popular and tasty alkaline balance tea); for a healthy start to the day: drink a large glass of warm water with lemon every morning.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and salad every day and drink good organic herbal teas; if necessary, increase your nutrient intake with a high-quality, balanced food supplement. Fruit and herbal concentrates, for example, are ideal for this, as are algae preparations, some of which are specially designed to support purification or detoxification.
- Support for intestinal function, as it plays a central role in metabolism. Preparations with psyllium husks for physical cleansing and preparations with probiotic cultures (e.g. lactic acid bacteria) for supporting the natural colonisation of the intestines and mucous membranes are beneficial here.
- Herbal teas and pressed plant juices or herbal liquid extracts to stimulate organ functions, such as dandelion, milk thistle or Andreas Moritz liver tea for the liver, as well as nettle, birch and the herbal mixture Kidney according to Andreas Moritz, are a good precaution.
- For an intensive purification, detoxification, fasting or detox cure, please ask your naturopath or doctor to put together an individual programme. Factors such as the support of liver and kidney functions and the individual objectives of the programme should be taken into account. This means, for example, the type of waste products and toxins to be eliminated and the respective areas of the body to be relieved.
- In addition to preparations for home cures, there are also curative treatments that are used to support the body’s natural elimination processes. The electrolysis foot bath and foot baths with good alkaline salt, for example, are applications that can provide a wide range of support for detoxification in this context.
- Fasting is also particularly effective for detoxification. Fasting for 7-10 days in spring and autumn provides optimum support for the liver and helps it to cope with the difficult task of changing from cold to warm seasons (or vice versa).
* Simple recipe for ginger water: Place 6 – 8 thin slices of fresh ginger root in a glass jug and pour 1 litre of boiling water over it. Leave to infuse for 10 – 15 minutes and then strain into a thermos flask. Drink throughout the day, pure or mixed with water.
