Ajowan, also known as king cumin, belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae) and is an annual plant with pinnate leaves and small white to pink flowers. The fruit is a dry schizocarp with an intense, thyme-like aroma and looks similar to caraway. Ajowan grows mainly in dry, warm regions of India, Iran and North Africa.
Ayurveda values ajowan for its strong aroma and warming properties. It is considered to stimulate the digestive fire (Agni) and is traditionally used in cooking and for various applications.

Indications
Indian household remedy for digestive disorders and asthma, for oriental and Indian spices, can be used on biscuits and flatbread
Use
Seasoning, roasted in oil or ghee, use sparingly. In Ayurveda, it is often used in warm water or as a tea infusion. Add 1 teaspoon to 250ml of hot water (80°C) and simmer for 5-10 minutes, strain and enjoy warm. Traditionally drunk after a meal.
