Generally there are three-, five-, seven- or nine-leaved Jiaogulan. The Jiaogulan variety we offer with seven-petalled leaves (seven-leaved) also comes from China, like our normal five-leaved Jiaogulan. Apart from the nine-leaved variety, which is extremely rare, however, and therefore not found in the trade, the seven-leaved Jiaogulan is considered to be the variety with the best quality because of its high content of gypenosides. Jiaogulan with seven leaves is particularly popular in Taiwan.
