Turmeric, botanically Curcuma longa, comes from South Asia, particularly from countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Myanmar, as well as from other tropical regions such as Madagascar. The plant grows best in warm, humid climates and is cultivated for its rhizome-like rootstock, known as turmeric root.

Use

Cut the root into thin slices, add to hot water (80°C) and steep for 5-10 minutes, best combined with black pepper or ginger.
