Use

The high silicic acid content and various minerals offer a wide range of uses for field horsetail.

Preparation as a decoction: For men, add 50 g of field horsetail (women take 35 g) to 1 litre of cold water and slowly bring to the boil in a saucepan on the stove. Simmer for 30 minutes without a lid from the moment of boiling to obtain ½ decoction. Then strain. Only this method of preparation ensures that the valuable silicic acid is actually released. Drink half a litre in three portions a day. Treatment over 6-8 weeks.

For a full bath with field horsetail or tea, you need about 150g of the medicinal plant.

Description of the medicinal herb

History:

Around 400 million years ago, the then tree-sized horsetail, together with giant ferns and mosses, populated entire forests. Remnants of this ancient vascular spore plant include, among many others, the field horsetail, which is also known to many people as horsetail.

The field horsetail owes its popular name to its use at the time. Here it was used primarily as a cleaning agent for tin objects.

As a medicinal plant, the field horsetail was used in ancient times as a source of silicic acid and its haemostatic properties were praised.

After it had become somewhat quieter around the horsetail, Sebastian Kneipp made it better known again as a medicinal plant and used it, among other things, in the treatment of rheumatism and gout.

Occurrence:

Horsetail is widespread in Europe and North Asia. It grows mainly in fields, meadows, fields and roadsides.
