The bilberry is a small, deciduous shrub from the heather family that grows in forests on acidic soils. Its angular stems bear delicate leaves, delicate flowers and juicy, blue-black berries with violet flesh. Blooming from April to June, it is pollinated mainly by insects and is rich in valuable nutrients.
