Baobab fruit powder is obtained from the dried fruit of the African baobab tree (Adansonia digitata L.), a deciduous tree from the Malvaceae family that grows in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa. It is characterised by a massive, often bottle-shaped trunk that can store water, as well as large, palmately compound leaves with usually five to seven leaflets. The drooping, white flowers are hermaphrodite, large and are mainly pollinated by bats, while the elongated, woody fruits contain numerous kidney-shaped seeds in a dry, floury pulp.
