The apricot (Prunus armeniaca) is a deciduous tree from the Rosaceae family with elliptical, hairy leaves. It blooms in spring with white to pink-coloured flowers. The fruit is round to oval, with a velvety, yellow-orange skin and a firm centre. The flesh is sweet and juicy, surrounded by a hard stone. Apricots thrive particularly well in warm climates.

The dark colour is often the result of gentle drying without the addition of preservatives or sugar
