Andrographis paniculata Nees, Kalmegh, King of bitters, herb cut, from conventional farming
The andrographis herb (Andrographis paniculata) is an annual herbaceous plant in the Acanthaceae family that grows up to 110 cm in height. It has square stems, lanceolate, dark green leaves and purple to pink flowers that grow in panicle-like inflorescences. The plant forms narrow capsule fruits that contain numerous small seeds.
Indication
Traditionally used in TCM for its bitter compounds, especially andrographolides, which have anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties and support the liver and digestion.
How to use
Pour 1/4 litre of boiling water (ideally 80-90°C) over 1 teaspoon, cover and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes, then strain.
2-3 cups for colds, 1-2 cups preferably before meals to support the liver and digestion.
Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women or people with low blood pressure.
The dosage should not be exceeded due to the strong bitter substances.
