Medicinal herbs description
The so-called konjac powder is currently on everyone's lips and is considered the latest sensation for all those who would like to lose a few kilos. The powder is obtained from the konjac root, the tuber of the devil's tongue. This plant originates from Southeast Asia, but today it is grown everywhere where a tropical or subtropical climate prevails. The root, which can reach a diameter of up to 25 cm, is often processed into powder or flour. In Japan in particular, konjac has long been considered an integral part of a healthy diet and is accordingly frequently found in Japanese dishes.
The special features of konjac powder
Konjac has become famous primarily because of its low calorie content, which is just under 8 kcal per serving. But it is not only the low calorie content that makes konjac root so interesting, the ingredients are also convincing: konjac contains 40 percent soluble dietary fiber, which can bind water much better than insoluble fiber - the so-called glucomannans, which are one of the most important components of konjac root.
Glucomannan itself is a very tough and starch-like substance that can bind up to 50 times more water than its own volume. For this reason, it is especially important to consume adequate fluids when consuming konjac.
The ideal solution for pasta lovers
In Asia, konjac has been used for a very long time, among other things the root is also processed into noodles. Abnehmwillige must have henceforth thus no more fear of too many bad coal hydrates, because the noodles from Konjak are in this connection a genuine alternative and have as already indicated only a fraction of the calories of normal noodles. In addition, already one serving of noodles covers the need of about 5g of glucomannan, which is recommended for weight loss. Furthermore, they are goodness-free, fat-free and alkaline. Their glycemic load is also zero.
Advantages of konjac at a glance:
- Saturates
The glucomannan in konjac powder gradually expands in the digestive tract after ingestion, helping to increase the feeling of fullness. - Regulates digestion
Since large amounts of water are bound, this prevents both diarrhea and constipation. The reason for this is the effect of the powder on the intestines, which is slightly stimulated. - Absorbs fat
Konjac powder binds not only water, but also some of the fats from other foods. The total fat absorption during a meal is thus effectively reduced. - Reduces appetite and prevents cravings
Glucomannans are able to reduce ghrelin levels. Ghrelin is a hormone that causes hunger and appetite when it is high. The intake of konjac powder, on the other hand, makes it possible for this same ghrelin level to remain as low as possible, thus preventing appetite. - Lose weight with konjac powder
Konjac powder is taken three times a day at least half an hour before meals for the purpose of losing weight. The following applies: at least 1 gram of powder to 1-2 glasses of water with 250 milliliters each. The rest of the diet does not necessarily have to be changed for this, only the portions will probably be smaller in the future, as soon as the satiating effect of the powder sets in.
