Ziggurat clover (Trigonella caerulea) is an annual herbaceous plant that belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae). It grows up to 30 to 80 cm high and has characteristic, three-part, pinnate leaves. The small flowers, which appear between June and August, are blue to purple in colour and form dense, head-shaped inflorescences. The plant forms elongated legumes whose seeds contain essential oils that are responsible for the typical flavour.
