Hamamelis virginiana L., cut leaves, from controlled organic cultivation
The witch hazel leaves come from Hamamelis virginiana, a shrub or small tree in the Hamamelidaceae family, native to North America. The leaves are large, oval to round, with toothed edges and a rough texture. They are initially green and turn a bright yellow in autumn. Witch hazel bears striking yellow flowers in late autumn.
Indications
Astringent, anti-inflammatory, for external and internal use in wounds, haemorrhoids and venous disorders.
How to use
Pour 1/4 litre of boiling water (ideally 80°C) over 1-2 teaspoons of witch hazel leaves or bark, leave to steep for 10 minutes and then strain. Three cups of this tea a day can be drunk in sips. You can also use this tea to wash inflamed skin, bathe in it (for about 20 minutes) or make a poultice with it.
