Ononis spinosa L., cut root, certified organic
Restharrow root comes from the spinous restharrow (Ononis spinosa), a perennial herbaceous plant. It has a deep taproot with numerous fine lateral roots. The plant itself has thorny branches, small feathery leaves and striking pink flowers in the shape of butterflies. It prefers dry, sunny locations and is often found on roadsides or in nutrient-poor meadows.
Indications
For flushing in inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract and in renal gravel, cystitis and nephritis.
Use
Pour 1/4 litre of boiling water (80°C) over 2 heaped teaspoons of the cut root and then leave to steep in a warm place for 30 minutes. 2 cups of this tea can be drunk per day. As the effect diminishes after a few days, this tea should only be used for a few days at a time, with a break of a few days in between.
