The Medjool date comes from the true date palm (Phoenix dactylifera), a tall-growing palm species from the Arecaceae family. This palm species can reach a height of up to 30 meters and has large, pinnate leaves with a length of 3 to 6 meters. The plants are dioecious, which means that there are male and female specimens. Its fruits are oval drupes that are between 4 and 7 cm long, have a thin, dark brown skin and contain a soft, sweet flesh. Medjool dates are mainly grown in the hot and dry regions of Israel, such as the Jordan Valley, and are among the highest quality date varieties.
