Cynara scolymus L., cardunculus L., chopped herb, from certified organic cultivation
Medicinal herb history:
The artichoke is said to have spread from Arab countries to the Mediterranean region around 2000 years ago, although in some regions it was thought to be deadly. For a long time, it was therefore considered more of an ornamental plant. Nowadays, artichokes are grown wherever the climate allows. Artichokes are a delicious delicacy, but most people only know them as canned toppings for pizza. Eating fresh buds, on the other hand, is an enjoyable culinary adventure. Artichokes are also medicinal plants, as they promote liver and gallbladder function, lower cholesterol levels, and aid weight loss. They can also help with diabetes.
Occurrence: Originally Ethiopia; Mediterranean region, Canary Islands, and South America.
Plant family: Asteraceae
Colloquial names:
Artichoke (English), French artichoke, vegetable artichoke, green artichoke, globe artichoke Botanical
