Apple mint is a traditional European mint species whose use dates back to ancient times. Roman and later medieval sources describe it as a particularly mild, fragrant mint that was cultivated in gardens, along paths, and in monasteries. It owes its name to its delicate, fruity-fresh scent, which is reminiscent of ripe apples and distinguishes it from stronger types of mint.
Botanically, apple mint belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is characterized by its soft, slightly hairy leaves and its light green, almost silvery growth. It prefers sunny to semi-shaded locations and develops robust, bushy plants that can spread rapidly through runners. Its dense whorls of leaves and delicate, light-colored flowers make it a characteristic representative of traditional European garden mints.
Die Apfelminze wird, ähnlich wie die Pfefferminze, aufgrund ihres angenehmen Geschmacks als Tee oder auch für Teemischungen verwendet. Die Minze gilt als appetit-anregend und verdauungsfördernd. Ebenfalls zu empfehlen bei Magen- und Darmbeschwerden
2 Teelöffel auf ca. 200 ml heißes Wasser (80°C) geben. 10-15 Minuten abgedeckt ziehen lassen, abseihen und bis zu 3 Tassen pro Tag trinken.
