History
Angelica is an aromatic and sweet-tasting medicinal plant which, according to legend, was sent to earth by an angel in times of great need, where it was used by a pious man to combat the plague. This legend is also the source of angelica's common name: angelica. In fact, this medicinal plant, which grows up to two meters high and originates in the north, was brought to Central Europe by the Vikings in the 10th century as a commodity. From then on, angelica quickly found its way into monastery gardens, and Paracelsus also used angelica as a panacea in his time.

In terms of appearance, angelica is easily confused with the highly poisonous water hemlock.
