Capsicum annuum L., chili, ground cayenne pepper, from certified organic cultivation.

Historical use

Columbus brought Capsicum annuum to Europe in 1493, where it was initially used as “Indian pepper”; in the 19th century, cayenne pepper became established in European folk medicine as a circulation booster and spice. In Ayurvedic and traditional medicine in Asia and America, it has been used for centuries as a stimulant for circulation and digestion.

Benefits for humans

Ground cayenne pepper from certified organic cultivation stimulates blood circulation through capsaicin and carotenoids, supports metabolism, and traditionally stimulates the appetite.

Traditional plant knowledge teaches its use for culinary purposes as a spicy black spice (7,000–10,000 SHU) with an intensely fiery note and a warming sensation in the mouth and on the skin, accompanying everyday ailments such as tension or irritation, both internally and externally.

Suitable for use in the kitchen and externally.
