Capsici Fruct., sweet paprika, ground, from certified organic cultivation

Paprika belongs to the Capsicum annuum species of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The plant usually grows as a bushy semi-shrub with green, lanceolate leaves. Small, inconspicuous flowers develop into fleshy, hollow berries/pods in various colors (green, yellow, red, orange, etc.).

For sweet paprika, ripe, usually red pods are dried and finely ground, often with the seeds and inner walls removed, which makes the powder mild and less spicy.

Originally native to Central and South America, Spanish explorers brought the fruit to Europe in the 16th century - first as an exotic novelty, later as a spice.

In Central Europe, especially in regions such as Hungary, paprika developed into a typical spice in the 18th and 19th centuries: mild, sweet paprika varieties were cultivated there, which were finely dried and ground to produce the well-known sweet paprika.
