Citrus paradisi, the grapefruit, is an evergreen tree from the Rutaceae family that grows up to 5 metres high. The plant has shiny, green leaves and fragrant, white flowers. The round fruits vary in colour from yellow to pink and have a juicy, often slightly bitter flesh. Originally from tropical and subtropical regions, grapefruit is now cultivated worldwide.
To produce 1 kg of powder, 33 kg of fresh grapefruit are processed, resulting in a concentrate with significantly higher nutrient densities compared to conventional powders. The process involves pressing the fruit, followed by gentle drying of the juice at low temperatures and under controlled, low-oxygen conditions to minimise the loss of sensitive nutrients such as vitamins and antioxidants.
