Carum carvi L., 2-year-old, whole seeds, from certified organic cultivation
Caraway is a biennial herbaceous plant from the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). In the first year, the plant forms a rosette of pinnately toothed leaves, while in the second year it develops a branched stem 30 to 60 cm high. The plant bears white to pink flowers arranged in umbels. The fruits, also known as caraway seeds, are brown to gray, elongated, and finely grooved, and are used as a spice in cooking. Caraway prefers to grow in dry, calcareous soils and is native to Europe and Asia.
