Centaurea benedicta L. (syn.: German synonyms: bandit herb, Benedict's thistle, Benedict's root, Benedictine thistle, St. Bernard's herb, bitter thistle, Cardobenedict), cut herb, certified organic cultivation

Benedict's thistle, also known as Cardobenedict or Cnicus benedictus, is a plant that has been valued in natural medicine for centuries. Originally native to southern Europe, the herb has played an important role throughout history due to its versatile uses and healing properties. The plant belongs to the Asteraceae family and is characterized by its spiky green leaves and striking yellow flowers.

In ancient times, St. Benedict's herb was highly praised by herbalists and physicians such as the famous Paracelsus. It was mainly used as a remedy to aid digestion and promote liver function. It was also used to treat colds and other infections, as it was considered anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

The botanical properties of St. Benedict's herb are as remarkable as its healing effects. The name “St. Benedict's herb” is derived from the Latin “benedictus,” which means “blessed,” and refers to the plant's positive properties.
