Originally native to the Middle East, the Damask rose was widely distributed by the Romans and later the Ottomans. In the Middle Ages, the use of the Damask rose spread further to Europe, where it was mainly used in perfume production and as an ingredient in skin care products. Especially in the region around present-day Bulgaria and Turkey, the Damask rose has been of outstanding importance in culture and economy for centuries, as it is still cultivated here using traditional, certified organic methods. The dried flowers with calyx of the Damask rose are a true natural product, known not only for their aromatic qualities but also for their soothing and healing properties.
