Trigonella foenum-graecum, ground seeds, from certified organic farming
Fenugreek is an annual plant from the legume family (Fabaceae). It forms pinnate leaves and delicate, light yellow to whitish flowers, from which elongated pods with the characteristically spicy seeds emerge. Originally from the Mediterranean region and western Asia, it is now valued worldwide as a cultivated plant.
Indication
Anti-inflammatory (digestive tract), expectorant, stimulates the appetite and general well-being, counteracts underweight, for respiratory diseases
Application
Internally: fenugreek seeds are used as a tonic by taking 1 tablespoon several times a day. To stimulate bowel movements, it is recommended to consume the powdered seeds together with puree.
As a tea, add 1-2 teaspoons to 250 ml of hot water (80°C), boil briefly, leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes, strain and drink warm if possible.
Known as ‘methi’ in Ayurveda, fenugreek is traditionally used there as a spice and for health purposes. It is said to have warming and invigorating properties. In Ayurvedic teachings, it is used to support digestion, strengthen the so-called digestive fire (Agni) and remove metabolic residues (Ama), among other things.
Externally: Fenugreek seeds are used to soften boils and carbuncles with a hot poultice.
Preparation: Mix 100g of coarsely ground fenugreek seeds with a little water and boil to a paste. Spread this thickly on a linen cloth and place it over the area to be softened. Renew the dressing 3-4 times a day.
