Quercus robur L., cut bark, from certified organic cultivation
The English oak or German oak is a deciduous tree from the beech family (Fagaceae). It reaches heights of up to 40 metres and has a broad, spreading crown and deeply furrowed, grey-brown bark. It is characterised by its lobed leaves with short stalks and the typical acorns that hang from long fruit stalks.
Indication
has an astringent effect, for cystitis (including bleeding), diarrhoea, haemorrhoids, white discharge
Application
Decoction of oak bark tea is successfully used to gargle for infections of the mouth, throat and gums.
The tannin ‘hardens’ the mucous membranes and thus removes the breeding ground for bacteria. Later, these ‘tanned’ mucous membranes are shed and replaced by new tissue. This is how an oak bark decoction is prepared: Pour 1/4 litre of cold water over 1-2 teaspoons of chopped oak bark.
Heat the mixture to boiling point, boil for about 3-5 minutes, strain and use lukewarm. For internal use, 2 cups of tea per day are sufficient.
It should be gargled quite frequently (about every 3 hours).
Also suitable for bathing hands and feet damaged by frost, as well as for compresses for inflamed eyes, weeping eczema, burns and secondary infected lower leg ulcers (so-called "open legs").
