Conventional deodorants are often criticised for being harmful to health. Ingredients such as ethylhexylglycerin, silver and alcohol prevent bacteria from multiplying. When the sweat produced by our bodies is broken down by bacteria, it begins to smell. To prevent sweat from forming in the first place, so-called antiperspirants are commonly used. These temporarily block the pores of the skin with aluminium, which causes them to contract. This applies to both artificial aluminium chlorohydrate and the natural salts ammonium and potassium aluminium sulphate.

That doesn’t sound very healthy at all. Since there is still no 100% reliable long-term study confirming whether and how harmful aluminium is to our skin and how much of it is absorbed by our bodies, we should treat aluminium salts with caution.
