The olive tree (Olea europaea) has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. The small tree of 5 to 15 metres in height grows very slowly and can reach an age of more than a thousand years.

The tree has an enormous resistance; you can cut off its branches, the trunk can rot and still it always forms new shoots and gives us its fruits, the olives, until its end.

These are true powerhouses, rich in unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and vital substances. For thousands of years, olives and the oil extracted from them formed the nutritional basis of many peoples.

Virgin and cold-pressed olive oil is a blessing for our heart. Olives are nutritious and a great source of energy. In regions where good olive oil is on the daily menu, people live longer than anywhere else in Europe.

In these strenuous times, very many people are exhausted. We are constantly bombarded with new bad news. It is increasingly difficult to maintain a healthy optimism and not to despair. Many factors and influences tug at our nerves and weaken us and our immune system.

Yet a well-functioning defence system of the body is the most important prerequisite for being armed against attacks by bacteria, viruses and fungi.

The olive can make a valuable contribution here. The olive strengthens us and gives us the power to master the challenges of life.

The olive tree gives us gifts in many ways:

First and foremost, of course, with its nutritious fruits and the oil extracted from them.

In Greece, freshly picked St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) is filled into large jars together with natural olive oil and then placed in the sun for weeks. The oil turns reddish over time. This so-called red oil is an excellent massage oil. The resulting warmth penetrates deep into the body, relieves tension and has a pain-relieving effect.

Its expressive wood is used to make beautiful things, such as hairbrushes.

The oil is used to produce high-quality soaps, hair soaps and cosmetic products.

Even the leaves of the olive tree are used for healing purposes: Prepared as tea, they help against high blood pressure and fever, they have an anti-inflammatory effect and against a variety of pathogens.

Olive is also used in Bach flower therapy. Flower remedy no. 23 is indicated for extreme fatigue, acute and chronic exhaustion. The essence extracted from the blossom of the olive tree gives us new strength on a physical, mental and spiritual level.
